I had ro wait in the queue at my library for an eternity on this damned
thing. It was a good, albeit depressing (when it came to the
post-Beatles stuff) read. I've read Mal Evans's obituaries before.

One thing that surprised me, again disappointingly, is that Evans gave
McCartney extensive help on some of the Sgt. Peppers songs. I've heard
this before and wasn't sure whether to believe it. Womack's book is
persuasive on this point.

McCartney promised Evans co-writing credit and also "royalties and all
that." He ended up providing Evans with none of the above.

This was actually the most disappointing thing I ever learned about
McCartney.

So, everyone, join in! What disappointed you about the various Beatles?

Would be, if ever actually verifiable.

John's antagonistic behaviour throughout, and propensity towards
addiction(s) - chemical, behavioural, and emotional.

George's sultriness and insecurity. Until around the end of The Beatles
really.

Ringo - well nothing really.

Paul - his overbearing bossiness. But *without* that we would not have
had the last 3 years of The Beatles at all I suspect.

It was Evans (through his journals) and Womack who contend Evans helped
McCartney on a couple of those songs, and that McCartney went back on
his promises to credit and pay Evans. I find them credible. Evans
worshipped all of the Beatles too much to have tried to bribe them, and
the Womack bio is balanced, addressing Evans's plusses and minuses.
