Musician: What about Rubber Soul? That was a real departure.

McCartney: All I can remember is that it was a kind of straightforward
album.

Musician: It was so acoustic though, compared to the previous stuff.

McCartney: Those were the sounds we were into at the time. "You've got
to Hide Yur Love Away" is just basically John doing Dylan. Dylan had
just come out and we were big fans of his.

Yes, the Bob Dylan influence was profound, Rubber Soul is often my
favorite Beatles album.

Rubber Soul could be my favorite Beatles album. However, the only
really Dylanesque song in it is "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away,"
which Lennon later admitted he did to prove that he could write in
Dylan's style better than Dylan did. Lennon still had his competitive
edge on Rubber Soul.

Again, I don't hear Dylan in the other songs and I think McCartney
undersold the Beatles in attributing the album to Dylan's influence.

I never really listened to RS with Dylan in mind except for that one
song really, come to think of it.

Same here; I only hear Dylan -- a better version of him, that is -- in
"You've Got To Hide Your Love Away." Lennon had a better voice and
better guitar technique than Dylan at that time, however.

The instrumental section in YGTHYLA is much more contemporary sounding
than anything Dylan would have done, too.

The song is in 3/4, which Dylan supposedly used a lot.

Definitely all John Lennon with a bit of a nod to the Bob Dylan style.

You all got a weird Rubber Soul album if it has
You've Got To Hide Your Love Away in it.
